I saw Pinmonkey at the Opry a couple of months ago. I thought they were surprisingly good. I can understand if you like traditional how they wouldn't appeal to you. I don't think Tim McGraw has much real talent(except for winding up with Faith Hill). Janice, thanks for always giving us a heads up om the shows. I always look for your posts. Pinmonkey? I have a hard time imagining a country group with a name like that. |

The name is weird, but they have great harmony and the lead is all played on dobro. ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif) |

Brad Paisley is a great singer, Tim McGraw isn't! Pin Monkey was good. I liked them the first time they were on the TV portion and T. Graham was OK. Tommy got to play a little tonight but nothing monumental, damnit! All in all, it was an OK night but I could have done without Quickdraw McGraw. |

I don't usually get to stay home and watch the GOO.
The lead singer from Pinmonkey reminded me of Rick Nelson, and the dobro player was a really good picker, IMHO.
Brad Paisley is good also, but gosh, the format of his new single is so formulaic: acoustic guitar and sensitive, Billy Joel-style piano on the first verse, then the band "builds" the intensity on the second verse, then a crescendo on the chorus. Hey, I've recorded a lot of material back in the 70's with singer-songwriters just like that. I'm not really criticizing it, just saying it's kind of predictable.
Tim McGraw did a creditable version of "Unwound." That's about it for me.
For me, the highlight was T. Graham Brown. Not only is he one of the most soulful singers ever to perform any kind of country music, in the same category with Con Hunley, but he picked two of his best songs. Johnny Bush has been doing "Wine Back Into Water" for several years, and it's one of my total favorites.
I also dug his statement, "it's tough following one of the superstars of country music, but I believe I'm up to the task." Then he gave the smile as to acknowledge who he thought was the real superstar. THAT alone was worth staying home and watching the show.

I enjoyed most of the show tonight. Brad P was good, but T Graham showed them all how it should be done. No fancy moves etc. but lots of feeling!

Tim did us proud!
I enjoyed Tim's performance, he recognized a great in the industry George Strait! His steelman, Denny did a great job!
Randle Curry with Brad and Tommy White with T.G.Brown did awesome work!
I must add Pinmoney, knocks me out!

Apparently (from what I've read), the name "Pinmonkey" was derived from the Simpsons episode wherein Homer dreams of working in a bowling alley setting up the pins (ie as a pinmonkey). The group had not chosen a name yet when a local club owner called on the phone and requested a group name so that an advertisement could be placed in the paper. One of the members of the group happened to be watching that Simpsons episode at the time, and Pinmonkey was chosen on the spur of the moment.
