The Bristol, Virgiinia/Teenessee area has been celebrating Country Music ( or the aniverssary of the "Birth of Country Music"
when AP,Mabel and family, and Jimmie Rogers "The Singing Brake Man first recorded "Country Music/(or Hill Billy Music) ..as it was called back when)in a bulding on State Street in Bristol, Tenn..a couple of blocks from .Bristol,Virginia
I was honored to be a small part of that celebration by playing at one of the many concerts that have been going on this past week under the name of "The Rhythm & Roots Reunion" There were many Nashville, local, and regional acts involved..playing Tradidtional Country, New Country,Folk,Blue Grass, Gospel,Hill, Blues..and whatever.
Some of the "local" steel pickers..were the Incredable Bryan Adams (Emmons Repair Extrodinaire), Eddie Trent..A fantastic Steel player who is comfortable playing any type of music, Steave Lenord, who not only plays steel,..also lead,vocals..and supplyed most of the great sounds system..and His Dad who plays an antique Very expensive Dobro..and a Double Neck(8 string) Fender (no pedal) Steel Guitar. They played some traditional Jimmy Rogers tunes as well as some othertraditional and more modern tunes. The other steel player was Pat Jenkins (LDG Model Sho Bud) Pat is also teh afternoon DJ on Country FM Radio WXLZ (FM 107.3) Lebanon,Virginia. There were many other fine entertainers and pickers...all doing the best that they could under threat of heat, and bad rainy weather. And also keeping country music alive. But it was like a mini steel Guitar reunion. Next year in Mid September..it will be Bigger and better.
