Little Jimmy Dickens is a showman and a true entertainer. This maybe wasn't one of his better shows but I would still pay money to see him. Jack Greene was good and Tommy got to finally play his new Carter on the TV segment. Charlie Daniels has never been one of my favorites but he's country. JoDee's performance was perfect. She was dressed nicely and sang flawless and beautifully. Steve Earle was a disgrace, an embarrassment a mistake and a total joke. He can take his sleeveless shirt and his tatoo's and stick them all up his a$$. He did not belong on the Grand Ole Opry but I'm sure Theresa will disagree with that statement. |

Mike- I take it you didn't like Steve Earle on the Opry.
I'll have to agree with you. Even my wife Said, "What is he doing on the Opry".....al |

Mike and Al I agree. Steve Earl was a waste. He is no more country than my dog. He belongs with the Woodstock gang. I watched The Knack just now on Direct TV and enjoyed them more than Steve Earl.

If Steve Earle saw Tammy Wynette at the Ryman, singing,"I Don't Wanna' Play House",in 1962,he is one hell of a man......plus extremely clairvoyant! Too bad he didn't use his talent to warn us about 9-11. |

I especially liked Pee Wee's playing on "Another Bridge To Burn". He kept that low harmony going throughout the solo!
I liked Jo Dee's new single and "Bring On The Rain" was played so nice by her steelman! Sort of sounded like a pedabro! Every note clear and pretty. Theresa |

Maybe that time-warp that Gregg pointed out explains how last night could have been a rerun.

In the past I have not been a Jodi Messina fan but I have listened and I must say I enjoyed her on both songs . Well produced and a real good band..Pete Fisher must have his head up his A$$ booking Steve Earle. His music may be great in some fields (leach field comes to mind)but to do two songs on on the featured TV portion is a pure insult to Opry fans.I'm not going to watch the TV portion anymore I want to remember it as it was meant to be before buffoons like Pete Fisher got their hands involved.

Come on Joe,
Don't dismiss so quickly. What if everyone felt that way with every artist seen or heard on the Opry? Theresa

What the Opry needs is a long handle hook same as they used on stage back in the Voudeille days. All they would have to do is yank them off the stage, would Steve Earl have a stretched neck. The rest or the show was good. Joe |

Well, I only caught the last half hour and was extremely disgusted. Charlie Daniels sucked as usual and Steve Earle was downright pathetic. How Steve ever got a recording contract is beyond me. He sounds like a 25 cent imitation of Bob Dylan. Little Jimmy and Pee Wee made it all worthwhile though.

I just finished watching my tape of last night. What's the deal with Steve Earle singing three songs on TV? Makes no sense to me at all, and he could have at least dressed up enough to cover his tattoos. |

I've been trying not to be too critical lately, and kind of giving the producers a little leeway. But putting Steve Earle on the Opry, and then letting him do 3 songs!!
Porter Waggoner sounds like Conway Twitty when it comes to pitch, and voice control, when compared to Steve Earle!! Those producers must have tin ears!!!

Dang!!! I liked Steve Earle.....He's not like the normal boring stuff your hear out of Nashville these days. I was glad to see he did his biggest hit "Guitar Town". I hate to see those artists who just do the cut from their latest CD. I wish he'd done "Copperhead Road" and then I'd have been in hog heaven. As for Charlie Daniels I thought he was great as usual. Ol' CD just jumps right in your face and works his butt off. My girlfriend plays the fiddle and we do "The Devil went down to Georgia" in our shows and it always brings the house down. I think she plays it better than Charlie but he's still the boss!!! I loved little Jimmy too! I've always liked the way he treats a ballad. He's got a lot of emotion in his voice. In closing, I think you've got to give all of 'em their due. I like a lot of different music styles and I can mix Steve Earle in with Ray Price, Charlie Daniels, Gene Watson, The Alman Bros. Bob Dillon, Alan Jackson, or any of a bunch of others. I saw Steve Earle at the Hampton Colliseum once and guess what? He had a Steel Player..............

Theresa I really don't mind them putting new good talent on the Opry,A little mix is good as long as it resembles Country music, because someone sooner or later has to take someones places. But not STeve Earle .He is good in the Southern blues circuit and apparently he has a support group that really like his music and pack places he plays.. retcop: you need to lighten up a little or sober up. |

Not that it's really any of my business, and I'm not saying I agree with anyone or not, but...
Janice, when you're editing the posts of someone else, can you at least spell "deleted" correctly?
...and while you're at it, you might consider adding the word "televised" to your internal spell checker.
