Finally had a 3rd Saturday night off and got to catch Mike at the Opry in McConnelsville. Great Show by Mike and the house band, Deana and the Clark Family, The Long Highway bluegrass group from Columbus, and many more gifted entertainers that "kept it country". What a pleasure to see a packed house of some 500 folks there to hear the Real Deal. Good job Mike, Deana and all the cast who made this a very pleasurable night.
Also picked up a copy of Mike's latest CD "Steel County - And Proud Of It". If you haven't done so, do yourself a favor and get a copy. Very tastefully done and a good variety of material. Mike even demonstrates his powerful singing voice on the Johnny Bush tune "If You Can't Undo The Wrong Undo The Right". He did this Saturday night and thrilled the audience. Hope to get up to hear him again this weekend in New Philidelphia. [This message was edited by Dave Smith on 22 April 2002 at 09:42 AM.] |

You've got that right!!! Mike Sigler can stand (or sit) with the best. He plays as fast or slow as he wishes with equal skill and taste. He not only sings well but does a great job of musical impersonations with a very entertaining "Elvis" song. He also has his own show on the 2nd Saturday at another nearby location.
Mike is enough of a reason to attend the Southern Ohio Opry, but the rest of those folks are much more than just "icing on the cake". The backup band, in general, is surprisingly good. Deana is fine at the keyboard and a really talented singer with a full range of styles. The show also features other regular vocalist/players and a knee slappin' funny Minnie Pearl type skit done by Mike's mother.
Then, they also have guest artists covering a variety of musical genre's. Finally, Deana's youngsters add that special kind of pleasure that only sweet, charming, children provide. All that for just a few dollars -- what a bargain!!!
Maybe best of all, though, is that the "Opry" folks are human -- not just some overly polished professionals just doing a job. They give you a feeling that they are friends and might just as well be picking and singing in your back yard as well as on stage. And then, after the show, to find that was NOT just a feeling! They truly ARE warm, approachable, genuine people.

Dave-
Glad you finally got to come to a show! Sorry that I didn't get to meet you. Did you get a chance to speak with Mike?- I am sure he would have wanted to talk with you.
Thank you so much for the kind words about the show and my family. Mike really is the "real deal" as you said. Great player, band leader and singer. Hope you can come back again soon.
Everett:
Thanks to you for the kind words. We hope to see you again too. Our family (and Mike) are going to do the ET Troubadore Theater on June 1st with the Osborne Brothers and we are really excited about that. A local tour bus company is chartering a bus down to Nashville for the weekend. Maybe you and your mom might be interested??
Let me know...
God Bless, Deana Clark
