I going back to my roots-BLUEGRASS MUSIC-there's no money in country either so why not carry a mandolin instead of a 70# steel?
The crap on TV is intolerable. What ever happened to shows like "New Country" and those other shows that featured the pickers? Money thats what- is all about bucks $$$.After 40 years the producers at the opry still can't tell whos doin' the lead!Usually they show the wrong picker and his mike is off.! Go to any $ 15 Bluegrass festival and see what you get for the money. |

Hopefully I will get home in time to watch. It's always nice to see a steel player as pretty as Donna play instead of all those ugly men players. Just kidding guys.

The gals in Bill's band were the only women around tonight. Bill did mention his band members during his number.
Was that Randell C or Tommy during Too Country?

Isn't it worth listening to 30 minutes to hear one good steel lick? Steel is worth it. |

Well, I left my daugter's dance competition early (got to see her compete but didn't want to hang aroud 3 hours for the awards)and got to watch tonight. I am definately in love with Donna. What a great picker and beautiful woman.
I thought the show was pretty good.
I have to work next Saturday (day job, phooey) and if I can figure out how to work my VCR I willtape next week as it sounds like a goodun.

I have a wonderful picture book from the Grand Ole Opry, with terrific pictures and a great history in it. It was written in the 70's to commemorate the 50th anniversary.
quote:
The opry has always been solid country and it should stay that way.
Either the pictures of Elvis, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters, and some unnamed Dixieland band performing there are some conspiracy, or the above statement is inaccurate.
Randall Currie, a wonderful Canadian steel player, used to come to the forum.
No more though. Perhaps the inspiring words of encouragement from various forumites was too much for him.

Kenny, I'm not sure, but I think it might have been left over from when James Brown "The Godfather of Soul" played the Opry in '79.
Somewhere in the universe, the echoes of screaming and gnashing of teeth still reverberate.
Oh, for the mythical Good Old Days... when country music was pure. What ever happened to Lee Greenwood, anyway ?

Well, this is two weeks in a row that we haven't seen or heard Tommy White play on the TV portion. However, Tony Prior in his Nashville report thread confirms that the blonde Sho-Bud is Tommy White's.

Indeed the blonde Sho-Bud was TW's. And it was fine fine fine. We were fortunate enough to have front row seats right in front of the Steel players for the 6:30 show ( TV ) and the entire show was way beyond what I thought it would be, I posted in the Steel Players section my weekend report. Great show, great weekend, we will go back for sure.
