Hi senior members of b0b's great forum! In 1950 on KMA radio there was a program sponsored by Manchester Waldorf crackers called the Stump Us Gang. People sent in song titles they thought maybe the guys couldn't play. If they did stump the band they got a prize. OK, that's the plot! Now, today at a nursing home gig a lady asked me if I knew a WW 2 song...."Rosalita" Bingo, I rememembered it from when I was starting to learn to play rhythm guitar (early to mid 40s) I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it might have been done by Al Dexter, the Pistol Packin' Mamma guy! (also the Guitar Polka). I
know some of you guys must be old enough to have heard this tune....'fess up & let me know! It would be a fond memory tune for my Band in a Box files! Way before pedals! Almost before steels!

it was al dexter. probably his second biggest song, recorded march 1942. you can get it on a great cd "pistol packin' mama" on asv/living era AJA 5311, released in 1999. contains 25 original dexter recordings from the early and mid 1940s, with good sound.

"Rosalita" was one of Al's best songs. He made a "just for fun" comeback in the early 50's and I was fortunate enough to play the gigs. I got aquainted with Al as his daughter lived next door to my first wife when we were dating. Jody.

our band does Rosalita in 4/4 and then a latin beat and the dancers love it. Same with Convict and the Rose, ala Bob Wills. Keep your thumb pick hot!
