Opry Live, 60 minute show, I think they had 6 or 7 peformances tonight. Thats about 21 minutes. They should call it Opry Live Interviews with the Blonde gal. They had a commedian on for one of the segments so that brought the actual music down to about 6 songs, Bill Anderson did two.. If someone on this forum has any input whatsover they should tell the producers to actually watch a TV show of the Opry and then maybe they will get a feel for what the show really is. I'm done with it..I tried, even though my family was giving me grief..
going back to re-runs, or even better, hopefully I'll be playing a couple of saturdays each month soon.,.

| Well, it's the best we've got so I will put up with it. We missed out on Connie Smith and maybe a couple more songs tonight. The blonde isn't too bad to look at and not really stupid like the first one they had. I guess if you don't like it, don't watch it but you'll miss some good mixed in with the rest if you don't. |

The combination of the excessive commercials and the totally worthless interviews that the blond lady conducts, makes watching Opry Live frustrating.
After last week;s Opry Live, I commented to my wife that they would have a decent program if they lost half of the commercials and canned the blond lady. |

| I didn't watch it, again, last night. But, I rarely ever watch "CMTV" anyway. If they would just televise the Opry it would be great, but with all the other garbage it's not worth watching. |

It wasn't a lot better on WSM-AM last night either. I listened because Jim & Jesse were on and they have a new album out they were talking about the other night which is more of a country sound with a steel on it. I thought they might have BOBBE on with them but NOT !! From air head to air time. Who called it this vast wasteland of nothingness ? Some FCC official if memory serves me right !!

It's no wonder why Country Music is stuck in a time warp. Here they have a cable show, weekly, one hour long, and the best they can do is bore everyone to death. Don't mistake this to mean tht every act is bad, they are not. Bill Anderson has his place in Country Music and should be regarded for the same, but he will not draw a new audience . With all the new talent thats out there burnin' up the charts it's amazing that this is not right in the Show producers face. 6 or 7 songs in an hour, 1 being a comedy routine, two by a former writer/ performer, two or three long Blonde segments and what'do ya get ?.. just what they got.
My wife and I are going on a short weekend to Nashville in April , Friday night will be the clubs, Saturday night will be the Opry and the Clubs. My 16 year old daughter saw a short portion of the Opry saturday night and clearly remarked to me " Geeze dad, Why would you want to go there ? Why would anyone want to go there!"
I'm thinking I fully agree with her but I already have the tickets and the Live show will hopefully be an improvement..we'll see..

Hey Jack, thats not it at all..There's a place for all of it, but the 60 minute aired show can be miserable, not the acts..the show ! Like stated, a 60 minute show with maybe 6 or 7 live performances filled with
backstage interviews while a quality act is performing ? Dumping Connie Smith for one of these interviews ? There's nothing wrong with Bill Anderson on the show or in fact hosting the show,I think that is very symbolic, whats wrong, in my view , is that the TV portion lacks what it is billed to be, " The Opry Live " ! How about they add more traditional music and geezers, , how about they just add more music period !
Oh yea, we can be tuff too ! After-all at the end of the day it's just some typed words !

I watched both the live and re-run not for any particular reason. I just love Country and "disposable" music...I think if all the old timers could get Chia-Pet hair pieces and write $hit songs with their "Great" new good friends they might just hang in there a while longer..The interviews proved that the newcomers are beholding and humbled by the OPry and are quick to tell how Hank Williams was such an influence to their careers.Why I'll bet their collections are full of Hanks best.I could detect a little influence of Hanks style in their performance.They all sounded the same when the music stopped.  Great stuff that Country and Disposable music.

Tony,
My wife, Carol, and I were in Nashville this weekend and attended the Opry on Saturday night, as well as visiting a few of the bars down on Broadway. The bars are what I expected, playing a mixture of rock, country, etc. Really good musicians but we saw very few of us "over 40" crowd down there.
The live Opry program was great, as usual, but the facility (the old Ryman), seating comfort, parking, waiting in line to get in, were deplorable for this type of presentation. I suppose that if I was into historical landmarks of this type, I would have ignored the discomfort.
I liked the Opry house at Opry Mills so much better. With all of this inconvenience, as a visitor, it gives me the impression that someone is really trying to kill this off.
Well, enough griping. I did enjoy the show. Gill, Chesney, Vassar, Ketchum, and many of the regulars, really made it a great show.

I don't watch it anymore. I get more out of reading the Forum or practicing. I agree, it's a waste of time. It's not even good entertainment.

It was over for us in Canada for several months. This is just the second week we have it back. I missed it.
I'm usually out Sat nights so I tape it. The FF button helps. The Rewind button is also useful. There's usually nowhere else I can see LIVE steel on TV.
You'll miss it when it's gone. |

Some of us "hardcore" were tuning in (or recording) expecting to see the Opry, but we seem to be getting a little bit of what they want us to see/hear on the Opry and the rest (most)is the talk crap.
I hope the Opry goes on for another 50 years or more, just seems it is being used and manipulated by Gaylord, Inc. They have cut or are cutting the air time for many of the "mainstay's" on the opry and it wouldn't surprise me if Dave's boss starts to see less time too or maybe she'll decide to stay in Branson?? (They "have to" make room for all of today's "stars"). |

When we last had the OPRY in Canada it was only a half-hour show. The first half-hour was ALL-TALK "Opry Backstage".
I agree that talk still gets in the way, but at least it's less than it used to be.
Also, I like seeing in back at the Ryman.

Theresa, my gripe isn't about "no steel". It's the fact that the Televised part is more talk or as the words in the song "I want a little less talk and a lot more action". When it was on TNN we got the whole 30 minute segment. On CMT we do not get the Opry for the entire show, only parts that they want to televise. I don't tune in to see a "talk show".
I don't take the attitude a little bit is better than none. Personally I'd rather listen to Stonewall Jackson or Charlie Louvan than Lonestar or Andy Griggs or Martina McBride,(for example). |
