Wink Martindale, also Max Bygraves and also Pat Campbell.
Don't know what record labels though.
Try a search at Amazon or similiar site.
Regards Baz.

I heard it by T. Texas Tyler, I believe. A search of the Ernest Tubb record shop's web-site might turn it up.

I have a copy of the Tex Ritter version. I,also, have a "spin-off" version by Tex,called,"The Red Deck Of Cards",written by Red River Dave McEnery, making reference to the Korean war. (Capitol # 2686).
Also,a "spin-off" vocal,(not recitation) by T.Texas Tyler called,"The Soldier's Prayer Book",(4 Star) written by V.F. Stewart
BTW,T.T.T. wrote the original.

Now this is going back in my memory a ways, but I am pretty sure I remember reading that the basic theme of Deck of Cards goes back at least as far as the mid-19th Century, when it was regularly performed as a kind of music-hall recitation. T. Texas Tyler may have copywrited his version, but the basic recitation goes back into the Public Domain, if my information is correct.

I can remember when It first came out in Baltimore, about 1949 or so, there was considerable talk about banning It fron radio. Seems a lot of the church folks got a little up tight.
