We're playing the Opry this week, so on the way out last night I picked up the program. It shows "VinceGill, Dan Tyminski Band, and Alison Krause" scheduled for the TV show.

Just finished watching the Opry. Where were the cowboy hats, where were the distorted guitars, WHERE WERE THE EGOS, all I saw and heard tonite were great songs and talented musicians. What the heck is going on??? |

Like you I don't know what is going on , but I guess we should complain a lot so the Opry Management will keep it going . Heard a Great Guitar Player, Doyle Dykes(SP?) on Jean Sheppards Portion. Super Picker, Great to See Instrumentalists being Spotlighted on the Opry once again.

Kenny,
thanks very much for the "kind words!" It's always good to know someone is listening.
John,
Doyle Dykes is phenominal! If you think he sounded good over TV/radio, you should have heard him from where me and Tommy White stood during Doyle's performances. We were impressed to say the least.
(Of course, you should have heard "Tommy" from where "I" stood! I think I learned a couple(?) of new licks tonight and learned how to paint my way out of a corner, too!
Go Tommy!)

Dave,
I also caught your playing this weekend....very nice. We are backing your boss lady in August at Sandstone Mn. You gave me a fit trying to duplicate some of your chops on the last CD ( at least that I know of).On another tone, when I get into a corner, it never fails that I have a roller when I should have had a brush. |

I passed on the TV portion. I like bluegrass
but I'd rather see Del McCoury. However it was good to hear Gene Watson's health news on backstage.
I put WSM on the net in time for Jean S and Secret Love. Mike Snyder had a great segment
and I'm guessing Tommy was behind the Derailers. I'm looking forward to their next album and the new single keeps them on track.

Curt,
thanks man. And, you'll enjoy backing up Jean in August. She loves steel guitar, so she'll be "listening close" to you play! Good luck, I'm sure you'll do a fine job.
Dave
(Curt, by the way, too many times I get to the corner only to find I've run out of paint!!!) [This message was edited by Dave Robbins on 22 July 2001 at 07:36 AM.] |
