I have two different charts for this tune, both in Bb.
Both charts indicate the second chord should be Ab7#4 or Ab7#11 (same thing). This makes no sense to me, as the #11 note is D, and the melody note is Eb. I've tried to voice this chord every way I can think of, and it just won't work.... I've decided it's wrong.
(Partly because of a later chord which appears - C7b9 under a D melody note.. that just ain't right....)
The voicing I've come up with for the second chord that I prefer is Ab7 (in fourths) over a Gb root... but I'm really not sure enough.
Does anyone have a chart for this ?
-John

John-- Check your email. I found a song with tht title in my 'Band In A Box' stuff and used a screen-capture utility to get some of the displayed chords and notation. I then emailed the data files to you.

The files are in .jpg format so they should open in your browser. One file shows ALL the chords by name while the other files show just a few measures in notation.

Hope I got the right song for you. --Everett

The second chord to this song is an A min7 flat 5. A in the bass and the rest of the chord is voiced G-C-Eb. The Eb is on top and fits the melody.
The original key is Bb.

Everett,
That has to rate high amongst the coolest e-mails I've ever received.. thank you ! Unfortunately, I suspect it's a different song by the same name. The one I'm looking for is written by Johnny Mandel.
Bill, I'm with you on that. Before I saw the chart, that's the chord I had in my head... leading on to a D7 (b9, #9, etc) to a G minor... but the two charts I've seen don't do that... until the 3rd A of the AABA form.
Anyway, I appreciate both of you guys taking the time to respond.

Hey John.

The song I am thinking of IS the J. Mandel tune. I was working a show last week on underarm guitar and between performances I worked out a nice jazz style chord melody arrangement to it.

You are to be congratulated for picking a song like this to learn. This is the kind of tune that not only broadens a steelers' harmonic knowledge but causes listeners to appreciate your playing AND what the steel is capable of.

Don't forget to wring the heck out of the C(#11) chord that is also in the tune!!!

John-- Glad you enjoyed the screen shots. Sorry, tho, that it was the wrong song. I found several songs with that same title but none were the one by JM. --Everett
