My band was supposed to open for Merle Haggard last week at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport, PA, but the venue manager called the morning of and said the show was cancelled due to illness and they would try to reschedule with a few weeks. Last night he called and said the show was off indefinitely and that Hag had cancelled the rest of his spring tour - 20 or more dates. Anybody know what's up with Haggard?

One of the Bands I work with did an opening for Merle a month or two ago, and although Merle was in excellent voice for the show his
stage demeanor was less than perfect. I think he may have been ill or one toke over the line as he almost fell on his face at one point. I'm afraid some of Merle's old ghosts may be haunting him again.

Well said B Cole..Maybe merle is just plain sick of the way the radio's and labels are treating the man who signifies the word Country. . If he never sings one more note his music that kept a lot of us working and a lot of people buying all the years, puts him in the great legends lineup that so few can ever reach. The man is one of the all time best, if not the best.

As far as Merle's tour goes,I posted a couple days ago that I got an e-mail from Norm and he said as far as he knows they go back out on the 25th and tour starts in Michigan and ends up in Biloxi Miss. He didn't say anything about Merle being sick. Hope this helps. ESnow

Thanks, ES. Unfortunately the tour dates info page on Hag's homepage is a blank. If you find out they're rescheduling the Williamsport, PA date I'd greatly appreciate knowing about it.
The Community Arts Center webpage says Hag's entire spring tour is cancelled:

Merle is the man, but he is really looking like death. The man has graced us with the best and like Micheal Jordan, retire and take care of himself. He has been looking sort of rough and would like to see him looking a little better. I am a Hag fan, die hard and true, but man he looks rough.
