I see where the ACM Awards are on tonight. Anyone want to guess if NSync gets vocal group of the year? Elton John female vocalist?

Mike, thanks for the heads up on the ACM Awards tonight!! I'm all atwitter, anticipating this glorious event. Who among us can honestly say they won't be teary-eyed, toward the end of the evening, when the much coveted Golden Skateboard Award is presented? I gotta get to the grocery store and get a generous supply of bubble gum for the show (I'm a Bazooka man myself).

Excitedly yours,

Mark

Here's one potentially interesting part:
"Murder on Music Row" is nominated for Vocal Event of the Year.

Since it's not about steel guitar, I'm moving this to the Music forum.

(But then again, maybe it's not about "music" either. )

Don't tell me Neal McCoy's up for "country rapper of the year"

I can almost bring myself to enjoy his rap version of "The Ballad of Jed Clampett". Maybe if he'd add a banjo.

Drats, no Wilkinsons. Oh, well.

Paul Franklin is this year's winner for Steel Guitar Player of the Year.

Yup, notice also that the rest of The Players won in their categories too! Given that they are the band in town, it makes sense. Good goin' guys!

So far, the Steel Player of the Year score is;

Jay Dee Maness - 17
Buddy Emmons - 9
Paul Franklin - 7
Red Rhodes - 4
Ralph Mooney - 1
Tom Brumley - 1
Dave Horch - 0 (hmmmm...)

?PF? - Will you be playing in the telecast? If so, about when in the show do you think it will be? Best, -Dave

I read somewhere that Leann Rimes was going to host or be one of the hosts. I guess that seals the "country" music awards since she wants to rid herself of the country image and be the next "pop" diva.

Leann is already a pop diva. Her appearance on Celebrity Deathmatch clinched it.

Sounds like the year John Denver and Olivia Newton John created the same feelings. When George and Tammy bolted the CMA, everyone was sure that was the end of it. So who are these people holding this Affair ?(Shindig ?)
If you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeating it. Always was a lousy history student, at least until Bobbe made Historian and that got me back into it... Regards, Paul

Cookie, Did you know about the award your old boss got? For those that don't know it, Mike Jones worked for Barbara Mandrell for about 20-22 years. She got the pioneer award on the show for those that didn't watch or couldn't. Ain't it nice a fellow steeler won?

Was that the one where Charlie Rich was the presenter for John Denver, and after reading his name, pulled out a lighter and burned it.

Over the past several years, my wife thinks that I've consistently over-reacted in my dissenting views about the state of country radio and all - been wrangled around on the forum here lots of times..... but with last night's ACM show, even she agree's that many elements have gone too far in their departure from anything resembling country - didn't even have to prompt her at all when the likes of JoDee Messina, Billy Gilman, Warren Bros, took the stage - and she was dumbfounded with Leann Rhymes thing, quote:
"why in the world would this girl that had us all recalling the glory of Patsy Cline with "Blue" make such an awkward and terribly unflattering attempt at being Brittny Spears - what in the world is she doing???" bingo sweetie!!

.... fully agreeing and having no answer, beaten down from the show, I retired to the basement with a Beam&water and listened thru Hag's "The Way I Am" album and Carl Smith "greatest hits".
