I've just learned that George has lung cancer. He beat throat cancer a few years ago. Let us all hope that he can beat this too. |

George is one of the most melodic lead guitarists in rock. I love his bottleneck slide guitar playing. I always wished he would take up pedal steel. |

Yipe, my fave Beatle with lung cancer, sorry to hear that.
I agree totally with Bobby Lee, and although I was totally dissapointed with George's recordings in the late 1980s and the very sparse studio efforsts since I have been hoping that he would record an album of more earthy material or revisit his roots with a tasty roots rock album with lots of that bottleneck playing.

I always wondered what would have happened if the Beatles had used a teel on Yesterday instead of the string section.

Woulnd't that be...tring section. Seriously, I agree. Hasn't there been any covers of the song that do use steel? In my mind I can almost hear the passing chords and changes between the vocal parts. What a great idea, Mike. |

Joe Goldmark's "Steelin' The Beatles"
Good call Bob, as I read Mike's comments I thought of that CD as well.
I strongly recommend this CD to anyone who wondered if... the Beatles and a Steel worked.
Joe has the answer and it's a great answer.

I'm sorry to hear about George H's disease. I like his slide work as well. The instrument that he was destined to place into the consciousness of the world was the sitar. His long running friendship with Ravi Shankar changed both of their lives. Now most people know what one is, and what they sound like. Sitar guitars would probably never have been invented either. Had it not been for George's strong love for the sound of that instrument, It would have languished in obscurity in this country to this day. So would the Tablas, because Ravi Shankar was the one to uplift and expose THEM. Someday that will happen for the pedal steel. God bless George Harrison- best wishes for him in this time.
