this came up on the exotica mailing list:
quote:
Annette Funicello
"Hawaiianette"
(Buena Vista Records)
...
Any educated guesses on who the
session players might have been? Plenty of steel guitar....

All Music Guide says it was on the Disney label. Also they spell the title with 2 n's: "Hawaiiannette". No other info, though. Not even a song list. [This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 27 April 2001 at 12:18 PM.] |

Click picture for the song list.
Also, this page shows the complete album on a CD compilation (volume 1), and some of the songs are remixed on this compilation from Disney.
Apparently the Buena Vista release is Japanese. This page sells it on CD for $36.99, but I noticed that the page hasn't been updated in over a year.
Apparently there's also a release of it on the Pony Canyon label from 1992, but I only found one obscure reference to it, and that's in German.

Bobby, you're in luck! There's a much better buy on e-bay Italia (see the link below)

But as to who is actually playing the steel, that's a good question. I doubt if Disney had a "staff steel man". I think this was a little too early (1960) for Buddy Merrill, but Noel Boggs is a possibility...he did stuff in Hollywood, too. Also might have been Roy Smeck, since he did a lot of traveling and playing in this time period. Sooner or later...we'll find out!
