Hi guys and gals: I'm wondering what kind of bar and what kind of picks to get to play a 6-string lap steel. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Depends on what type of bar you like. The "Stevens" type bar has a groove along both sides which makes it somewhat easier to hold when doing single notes. The "bullet" bar has a rounded tip which makes certain slants and single notes easier to play.

I use and recommend the Broz-O-Phonic bullet bar made by Latch Lake Musical Products. It's designed by Bob Brozman and supposedly mimics the dimensions of the bar used by famed steeler Sol Ho'opi'i.
