If you missed Bobby Black, with the Commander Cody Reunion last week, you can download the audio of their performance on the PHC Website. There are also pictures, one with Bobby playing his Carter.

I checked their website and they are playing in New York at Chicago Blues next Friday night, I think it will be worth a trip into the Apple.
Last week I also bought a used video 'Hollywood Boulevard', a seventies spoof on 'B'Movies, cheesy, but had Commander and band with Bobby playing live on the side of a mountain in the Hollywood Hills, lots of shots of the steel, it was worth the $1.99 I paid for it.

Craig, if that's the one I think it is, it's from 1976 and was made by Joe Dante and some other guy Allan Arkush who worked for the master of cheapies Roger Corman.
The cool part is that after this one Corman went on to make films like The Howling and Gremlins, great 1980s films that mixed horror and humour with ironic reference points. Now I think about it, I've kind of lost track of him.
I saw this film one late night about a zillion years ago. I don't remember the Commander & the Airmen, but I didn't know about them back then.

I saw the Commander Cody show after Prairie Home Companion. Great show. After the show the band members came out and mingled with those who stuck around. All were nice guys. Bobby Black's playing was wonderful and it was nice to talk to him a short bit.
The St.Paul show was the third of the tour. The Commander said the Ann Arbor shows were video taped and the St.Paul show was taped for a possible live CD. |

Yes Jason, That is the right movie, it's also scored by Andy Stein from the Airmen and also a member of Garrison Keillors Band.
I am going Friday Eve to see the Commander,am looking forward to seeing Bobby Black and Bill Kirchen.

I love Garrison's show but CC was boring. Just sounded like a bunch of hacks to me. Way below PHC's usual standard for musicianship and originality. Now I know why I've never really become aware of their product... |

We used to get the PHC radio show here in Australia about 10 years ago. What is this show you are talking about? I thought Garrison Keilor had moved to Sweden or somewhere. |

Brendan, If you click on the link above on my first post you can hear the whole show, they also have an archive of past shows that you can listen to.
The show schedule is also listed.
As last I heard, Garrison married a Swedish woman but has a Home in Wisconson, just over the border from Minnesota, and an apartment in NYC.

Thanks Craig
Sounds like the same show how long has this been on or did it ever go off the air?
My favourite song from the commander too--Mamma hated diesels--what a great tune.
regards Brendan. |

I know they had been back for at least 5 years, they did take a hiatus for a few years, his website may answer that.
I had the pleasure of meeting Garrison after one of his Winter shows he does every year from Town Hall in NYC.
