CMA Announces Special Induction for Country Music Hall of Fame; New Hall Of Fame Set To Welcome 10 New Members In May
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2000--To coincide with the opening of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in May 2001, CMA will induct 10 Country Music luminaries into the coveted Hall of Fame. The inductions will add special significance to the gala opening of the new, state-of-the-art facility in downtown Nashville. Typically, members of the Country Music Hall of Fame are formally inducted during the annual CMA Awards broadcast each fall.
"The CMA Board felt that the celebration for the opening of the fabulous, new Hall of Fame and Museum would be the ideal occasion for this unique and historic induction," says CMA Executive Director Ed Benson. "Ten deserving individuals will be honored who might have waited a long time to get into the Hall of Fame with the current annual induction process."
Individuals eligible for the special induction must have been a final nominee for the Hall of Fame at least three times. The qualifying nominees' names and bios will be sent to the Hall of Fame panel of electors, who select the final 10. The anonymous panel of more than 300 voters, is appointed by the CMA Board of Directors. Nominees must have been active in the Country Music industry for at least 10 years. Balloting for the Country Music Hall of Fame is officiated by Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
The 10 new honorees will be formally inducted during special ceremonies to coincide with the opening of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in mid-May of next year. The special inductions will be in addition to the regular 2001 inductions, which will be presented in the Open and Non-Performer categories during the 2001 CMA Awards. Induction into the Hall of Fame is regarded as the ultimate recognition of outstanding contributions to and impact on Country Music. There are currently 74 individuals, duos or groups in the Hall of Fame.
"Surely there is no more appropriate way to really celebrate the opening of our new building than this special induction of 10 American musical pioneers into the ranks of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001," says Hall of Fame Director Kyle Young.
Charley Pride and Faron Young are the most recent additions to the Hall joining such legends as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Gene Autry, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Elvis Presley. CMA established the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961. CMA manages and conducts the annual election of members into the Hall of Fame. The Country Music Foundation operates the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and assures the appropriate recognition of Hall of Fame members by displaying their plaques and other memorabilia. CMF also protects the rights and uses of "Country Music Hall of Fame" name through an agreement with CMA.
