Rock Hall of Fame: 2001 Inductees
Aerosmith, soul master Solomon Burke, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Michael
Jackson, doo-woppers The Flamingos, Ritchie Valens, and Queen are
among the folks being welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
for the year 2001. These fine folks with accept their induction, and
most will be performing, at the 16th Annual Induction Ceremony taking
place March 19 in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Also
being honored as a "non-performer" at the ceremony this year is Chris
Blackwell, who founded Island Records in 1958 and went on to work
closely with people like Tom Waits, Bob Marley, U2, and Steve
Winwood. James Burton and Johnnie Johnson will also be inducted in
the "Side-men" category, Burton for his work as a country music
guitarist alongside such legends as Elvis Presley, Rick Nelson, Gram
Parsons, and Emmylou Harris; and Johnson for his rocking piano action
with Chuck Berry. Johnson also released his first-ever major label
solo record in 1990 with a little help from friends Keith Richards
and Eric Clapton. Artists are eligible for entry into the Hall of
Fame 25 years after releasing their first album.
