John, that's my favourite Hunter S. Thompson quote too!
Actually I was flipping through Sonny Barger's book and he was reflecting on the days when Hunter S. wrote about the Hells Angels so they went and stomped him.
In the same paragraph Barger called Hunter a pussy then mentioned that it was a fw Angels that went round and stomped the writer.
That's the trouble with the old bikers, no sense of irony...sigh
