I got a name mixed up it's Steve Holy.
Who was that playing with Charlie Pride ?
Pat Sajack hit it off well with John Conley.

Doesn't Ronnie Miller play with Charley Pride? Man oh man...he was just drilling those licks perfectly, and Charley hasn't missed a beat from thirty years ago when Kiss An Angel Good Mornin' first came out |

It was a good show tonight. Charlie Pride sounded like he did thirty some odd years ago, Although John Conlee needed a steel player, he still sounded great, Steve Holy did a great performance and Skeeter needs to take a sabbatical and learn another song. |

Mike,
I played for John last night,so I guess you're correct,he needed a steel player!
I hate for you to be so rough on Skeeter though. She is sweet and is battling breast cancer. We all know by now ,friends and family are more inportant than music and Skeeter is my friend.

Tommy, I'm not being rough on Skeeter, I just want to hear her sing something besides "End Of The World." That was the third time in a row she sang it for the televised portion. I heard you behind Skeeter but I didn't hear you behind John. I'll clean my ears out before next Saturday night.

I definitely heard Tommy behind John. That was great tone and some very tasty licks. If I hadn't seen him in the background, I would have thought it was John's own steel man. It sounded very rehearsed, and I mean that in a good way!

I was wondering why no camera shots, but knowing john doesn't always bring on his whole band (might be an opry limitation)I sort of thought it was TW playing. Most Artist that appear do like to perform there signature songs. I agree that more variety should be used by the older artist. However people still flock to see the original and seeing that they have no new releases, and that they are not over booked on the TV portion. Why not ride the horse that brung them? And Theresa Jumpin Bill who reached 90 and still jumps may have outlived his entertainment value as you said but he has not outlived his desire and love for the venue that keeps his blood flowing...

Mike,
I do agree with you about Skeeter performing a new or different song.I guess she thinks she should dance with who brought her, which is understandable.
I did'nt play much on John Conlee's tune, so you did'nt miss anything. T.W.
To whom ever,
I assure you Jumping Bill has not outlived his entertainment value. He always brings belly laughs from the audience,no matter what age they might be,including my four small children.

Tommy I said that wrong,Tho a lot of Artist have lost a step or two, they are the ones who built the stairs, and as long as they can still climb them they belong where they lead too.

Makes one wonder why some of the staff band was sacked?
(yea, I know, an old war here but one cain't help but think about what's happened.) |

I thought Steve Holy could have used a steel. It seemed a little dead and a lot of gaps in the song. He probably can't afford a steeler yet (or his manager told him he didn't need one) but he could have used the staff steeler (Tommy) on the Opry.
On John Conlee's songs I heard the Sax but didn't notice any steel.
Skeeter is like all the entertainers on there, they do primarily their hit songs. If she didn't sing what she did there would be those that would be complaining. I remember years ago people would complain that Roy Acuff is going to come out and do Wabash Cannon Ball, but if he didn't do it the same people would be Pi$$ed.
