I realize this question borders on blasphemy, but I was wondering if anybody had any licks/links on playing E9 pedal stuff on a non-pedal C6th.The reason I ask is because I'm trying to convince a fifties-style country group I'm playing with that they need a non-pedal player instead of pedal steel.I already figured out how to fake a coupla pedal steel type things on C6,but if I knew a couple more I'm sure these folks can be convinced that non-pedal is the way to go.Does anybody remember the recent thread about a song that Buddy Emmons played on where he's imitating all these pedal effects on non-pedal?Thanks folks,I'd appreciate any help.

Adam,

here's the link www.buddyemmons.com/Believe.htm
...it's kinda strange but I tried it and it worked quite well after I practised it ALOT !!!
But it's a tuning that you could have on a 3rd neck not as your main tuning, I'd like to know some of your "fake" PSG licks for myself...
Andy

Thanks for the link,Tele. That sound clip blows me away! How ingenious is that! The coupla licks I stole are nothing that clever. If I can figure out a way to post them,I will.

If you want to hear some pedal changes on a non-pedal steel, listen to Jerry Byrd's rendition of "I'll Be All Smiles Tonight" from the album "Admirable Byrd". This song was done on the E9th tuning without the high G# for the 1st string. You probably won't believe what you are hearing can be done without pedals...but it can and Jerry did it.

I agree. Listen to Jerry on ADMIRABLE BYRD. But I gotta raise the question...if it's for a fifties style band, why would they want a pedal sound in the first place? Most, if not all of the stuff in that era was played non-pedal....or am I wrong ? That was the hey-day of the Fender Customs and Stringmasters !

I'm with you 100% George, that's why I'm trying to sell them on my Fender Dual Professional(that and the fact that my Remington Sustainmaster is too big for me to carry around!).The people in this band are just young kids and they don't understand why I'm playing standing up and don't have any pedals on my steel. It's not what the're used to seeing on TNN.They'll learn.
Thanks for the Byrd recommendation.Keep those suggestions coming!
