After hearing some of the great stuff from the 10CD Ray Price Bear Family set and reading the incredible book they give you, I got hungry and wnet searching for more Ray. On CDNOW.com they have his new CD and a release on Jasmine of some live stuff. The live stuff has some different backing from what Jimmy Day did on some of the records and includes 2 instrumentals. I had to download the Windows Media Player (MP) because some of the sound samples were not available in Realplayer format. The MP sound samples are awesome!!! They download as fast as the Realplayer samples but the fidelity is 100% better and actually sound as good as a decent LP. I have the latest free Realplayer and I never get even decent fidelity out of it. This is important because I wasn't going to purchase the latest Ray CD because of a lack of steel. When I was able to hear how incredible Ray's voice and the backup was using MP, I decided to order it. Why would MP be blowing away RealPlayer?

Greg, I believe the Windows Media Player has better fidelity than Real Audio, but the file sizes in "WMP" are somewhat larger than the "RA" stuff. You might not notice a difference in download times (because of your connection speed), but the file sizes would be a lot different.

Greg-
I wondered about Real Player and found the same as you say. the Windows Media Player is very good. I wish I could get rid of Real Player, netzip downloads and all that stuff and just go back to WMP....But the other programs I downloaded take over, even when I don't want them.?...al
Maybe this should be on Computer?

I am connected at 31.3, a relatively slow connection. Where I live, 3 miles from the telco analog switch, I can't even connect faster than this. The download file sizes may be different but it's a horse race trying to time which downloads quicker They are almost identical, about 10 seconds. I've got Realplayer configured for max fidelity and it still sounds awful. Not much highs, awful fidelity. I ordered the new RP CD, his Jasmine CD and a Jeannie Seeley/Jack Greene Cd from CDNOW. Why is it that they say the 10-13 olds are buying all the music. My dad has bought over $1000 of stuff from Bear records in the last year. If you look at ebay it's incredible to see how many Bear CD sets are being pawned for about $10 less than deep discount new. Lots of CD burners out there. I also was surprised to see CDNOW selling USED CD's! I thought Garth wasn't allowing this. Anyhow the Jamine release has I think, 21 cuts, a lot of value for a low price.
