Hi guys!

What do you think of (the late) Doug Sahm's "The return of Wayne Douglas" cd? In my opinion Tommy Detamore does a fantastic job!

Best wishes,Andy Sainio

Ps. Whatever happened to Robbie Springfield?

Watch it, Wayne. You're showing your age!
(must be pretty near MY age)
Sir Douglas was indeed a musical phenom -- throughout his career.

I spoke to Tommy D. last night. Apparently, there is a dispute over who exactly owns the tapes, since there was never a written document, only a handshake deal. Doug was frequently cavalier about the formalities of business and of course did not anticipate passing away.

When Doug's estate comes to terms with whatever record company will ultimately release the recording, I'm sure we will all be in for a treat, since Doug was one of the most masterful musicians I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, much less making music with. Tommy is an awesome player and I know played his tail off on this project.

Its a shame this CD is held up. I have seen at least 3, maybe 4 really good reviews on it.

Hi again! I got MY "The return of Wayne Douglas" on Tuesday! It's on Tornado Records (on Evangeline in Europe) and it contains 10 Doug Sahm originals: Beautiful Texas sunshine;Oh no!Not another one;You was for real;Cowboy Payton Place;Huggin* thin air;Yesterday got in the way;I can't go back to Austin;Dallas Alice;I don't trust no one when it comes to my heart and Texas me. Plus Dylan's Love minus zero/No limit and Leon Payne's They'll never take her love from me. ALL the guys are good, but Tommy D. just shines!

Ya'all have a nice day!

Best wishes,Andy Sainio

Ps. Robbie Springfield played steel on Kenny Dale's early albums...

I'm aware of "The Return of Wayne Douglas." I believe there's another album still in the can. But Tommy D. would have the definitive answer.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I am hopeful that the issues concerning the release of this record will be resolved soon. I have no knowledge of any other "complete" album in the can. But knowing Doug's preferred methods of recording (Yeah, that's a groove! Roll tape!!) I am sure there are lots of tunes in lots of places in varying stages of completion. I guess time will tell.
Let me say once again that I am so proud to have been a part of this album.

Douglas, I miss you.

Thanks again,

Tommy

Yeah, it was "The Return of Wayne Douglas" that I have seen all the press. I did see a review for 2 different Doug Sahm CDs in No Depression magazine, though. Looked at the article in a Border's.

Robbie Springfield is an excellent steel guitarist. I believe he's living (and playing) in northern Arkansas these days.
