One has to admire the longivity and voice of Ray Price. He's like a fine wine. New album sounds like a must buy for me.... Haven't found it yet tho.

I don't think that was Steve playing with the chief. I think it was Danny Muhammad. |

Man, I can't believe how great Ray Price is singing. A lot of the older artists voices seem to fade and they start singing off key (Porter Waggoner for instance) but Ray keeps everything intact. His voice is so clear and pure. It's a damn shame those idiot radio programmers won't let a voice like that be heard on modern country radio. I'm sure Ray could win over some of those new country fans. How could anyone not like him?

Ray's album is on Buddah. If you can't find it at Wal Mart etc you can get it thru Amazon, CD Now etc.
I understand Bill Anderson performed Too Country. Any comments on this ?

Ray did seem to realize that Mark Chesnutt had done "Better Class of Looser" on his Long Necks and Short Stories CD -- the same disc as "Old Country" and "Bubba Shot the Jukebox".
Ray's version was innovative though in that he did the first first in a pop style--talked it a bit-- before kicking into country mode. That makes sense when you hear the lyrics.
Funny, I always figured that to be a Ray Price song that Chesnutt had covered. It was penned by Harlan Howard -- that explains it.

PS: I liked what Whisperin' Bill was trying to say with his "Too Country" tune. However, the song seemed a little contrived or just not that well written to me. It wasn't a good representation of real country music.[This message was edited by Ron Page on 07 August 2000 at 12:20 PM.] |
