I haven't seen anything on here about Junior Brown, so I thought I would start one.. is he PHENOMINAL or WHAT?!??! I've seen him once at Wolftrap, and twice at the Birchmere, and he never fails to amaze me!! ...makes me wanna just go home and sell all my equipment!!! *grin* ...I mean, how much talent can or should one person leagally have?!??! He has enough talent for at least FOUR people!!! Well, enough of my ramblings... take care, and have a great day!! ;-)

Love that guy! I got to interview him twice for the magazine and he just might be the funniest guy I've ever met. I got to hang out with him when he was opening for The Mavericks. We went on his bus, I got to preview his then new video, Venom Wearing Denim. We listened to Faron Young C.D.s. Never did go out and hear The Mavericks. He signed my Gibson lap steel, posed for pictures. Just a great time. Last time I heard, he was getting ready to put out a live album COOOOOL!

Junior Brown contacted Lloyd Green to come and visit at a recent Junior Brown session. Junior called used Bob Moore on bass(first session in fifteen years), Buddy Harmond on drums, Pig Robbins on piano. Junior was hoping to capture some of the feeling that these session players are capable of. Junior invited Lloyd to listen to some tapes in his bus. While there Junior gave Lloyd an amp. This is the second amp given to Lloyd by Junior. |

Just saw him on Tv last night, what a gig, I missed him live but the ABC television station filmed him for their live format show when he came out, and it screened last night.
What a blast!

Hey pix1,
The only thing I can say is if Junior opened for the Mavericks they must have been a real let down after his show. I like them but they're not driving enough to follow someone with the punch of ol' Junior.

Hey Jerry,
Man, you got that right. As I said, I didn't even bother going out to see them. But what I could hear from where I was sounded like a bad I Love Lucy rerun! I thought that they might break into Baba Lou at any second! |

It was said in a critique I read that after Junior performed at the Mavericks concert in San Diego (two years ago) that a good percentage of the crowd up and left... they were only there to see .. Junior Brown.

A friend of mine went to that show in San Francisco and told me that lots of people left during the Mavericks first few songs. Junior was the main attraction, even though he was the "opener". I guess the Mavericks are the "headliner" because they have more "hits".

"I'm wanted by the Highway Patrol, and my wife thinks you're dead" Why wasn't that on on the "Worst Song Title" list?
I saw Jr. way back when TNN had country music programs on it ('92 I think), had never heard of him, but he comes on Crook&Chase or Nashville Tonight, opening with this just blistering "Broke Down South Of Dallas" on his Guit-Steel. The tune is a takeoff on "Six Days on the Road".
Even the non-music people hanging out at the house stopped what they were doing to watch him, and were transfixed. Those licks where he picks anopen string while twisting the tuning key up & down are a riot.
There was a Jr.Brown thread on the Telecaster forum recently alluding to the fact that Jr. is a real
" 4-door Platinum @ssh*l* " off stage, but...I could care less. I'll only ever see him on stage. The rest is none of my beeswax.

Well, for what it's worth, I found him to be a very nice guy. I've heard all the stories as well, but I kind of wonder how of much that stuff is true. As Rich mentioned, who cares? His music is SMOKIN'! |
