hello from Nebraska - my first post here and results from suggestion from Ron Pages that I get in here, as I had posted an inquiry to him, as follows:
Just found out that I am going to be having an opportunity coming up next month to spend a few days in Bakersfield, CA. I've passed thru there years ago
as a kid, but this would be my first opportunity to really kick around there a little bit... and I'd love to investigate some of the old Hag, Buck Owens, Tommy Collins,
Wynn Stewart, etc honky tonk hangouts if any of those old places still exist?? of course, I'm aware of Buck's new Crystal Palace dancehall place, so likely will
indeed check that out.... but, I'm really more interested in investigating some of those old original hot-bed joints of the 60's if you all know what I mean - i.e.
"the Blackboard" and "Rainbow Gardens" are two that I've read history about and have heard Merle and Buck talk about in interviews and such....
Even if these places are old worn-down abandoned buildings at this time - I'd still love to see them, take some pictures and such just for the history (I'd probably
sit out front in my pick-up, have a couple of smokes and a can of Hamms while I listen to a cranked-up tape of "Love's Gonna Live Here" or "Swingin Doors")....
try to turn back the hands of time at least for a few minutes, you know!!!
Anyway, I'll not ramble any further, but just interested to know if anyone might have any thoughts or suggestions for me.... feel free to forward any ideas or leads
you might have, I'd appreciate it very much. Long live the Buckeroo's, the Stranger's, and Bakersfield of the 60's ----
