I don't have a blue book, which was my last resort. I've looked high and low on the web and can't seem to find any guitar like this one. It's a Gibson J-200 solid black in color. I've seen several natural and vintage sunburst but no black! I've seen an elvis signature model but all of the inlay is different, It has crown's on the fingerboard and a big crown on the pickguard. This one has the regular inlay. I will post below what exactly the label says.
Style: J-200
Gibson: Guitar
Number: 91581001
Guaranteed against faulty workmanship and materials.
Bozeman, Montana
U.S.A.
By the serial # decoder from the Gibson website it states the following:
YDDDYPPP
YY - Production Year
DDD - Day Of The Year
PPP - Plant Designation or Instrument Rank
So from what that says it was made on the 158th Day in the year of 1991, With the plant designation/inst. rank of 1. This doesn't tell me anything about a value.
Any information on this guitar would be great! I can take pics if needed.
Thanks!

Ben, this might give you some idea. It's not black, but it is a 1994 model made in Montana. Nice ax!

Hey Ben,
I remember working at a retail store during the early 90's and having a black J-200. It was in conjunction with a Clint Black promo. I don't think it was considered an artist guitar. I would think it would be at least $2000.00 to $2500.00 depending on condition.

According to my Gibson flattop book, there were no '90s J-200's made in black, unless it was a custom order. And they all came with the crown inlay. Hmmm.......interesting. So your guitar just has dot inlay? Sure it's not a J-100 or a J-185? It says J-200, like you said, so that's probably not the case. I'm intrigued.
I owned a '67 black J-200, and it was a nice guitar. I think they were spraying a few black during that era to coincide with the Everly J-180 phenomena.
I don't think the colour will affect the price, and some may even prefer it in the more rare black - that is, if it's not a respray.

It's not "dot" inlay, I should have been more descriptive, sorry. It has the standard J-200/SJ-200 inlay, Like the one Bud posted from eBay. It's the same inlay as that one. On the Black J-200 ELVIS model it has the crown inlay and the big crown on the pickguard. This is not that one. |
