Hi Guys! I'm new here so I'm going to apologize ahead of time for saying something stupid...cuz I know I probably will!

I've been playing in high G bluegrass tuning and have been looking for a way to play some nice minor chords.

High G is: GBDGBD

Lately, I've been tuning: EGDGBD

If I want a major chord, I voice the root on the low G string and omit the low E string: GDGBD

If I want a minor 7 chord, I move the bar up to the third fret and voice the root on the low E string for: G Bflat F Bflat D F or:Gm7.

I'm sure you've all already discovered this tuning, but I'd like to get your thoughts on it.

Seems perfect for bluesy jazz stuff.

Thanks, Lew

I've been promoting this tuning for a while(see Brad's Pages of Steel). It opens up a lot of possibilities and really gives the reso more colour. It's also different from the common steelguitar/lapsteel derived tunings like C6 etc, which sound too 'hawaiian' for my taste. I have a couple of jazztunes worked out in this tuning, an Irish reel and a number of solos for the band I play in. Accompanying works well too...
