I just read another thread and learned the sad news about Jack Mooney's passing.
Does anyone know of any recordings he made other than his LP on the ARC label out of Canada? I think it is called "Swinging Steel Guitar", probably close to 40 years old now.
It is a fantastic LP and I am a big fan of this guy, and hope someone can point me to other recordings he may have made--either as a solo artist or as a band member behind a vocalist. ANYTHING!! |

To my knowledge, that ARC disc was his only recording which, if so, is a darned shame. I too, would love to know of any other recordings he may have made. I have in my collection a rare recording of one of his 1946 radio shows, (no pedals in those days), which shows him off exactly the way I remember him. Jack sent me a CBC Morningside segment which he did in Toronto, music only, about 10 years ago. On this, his style had changed completely as he was now playing jazz pedal...you'd never know it was the same guy. It's great also, but as mentioned before, I preferred his free-wheeling single string (non-pedal) styling of the 1946 era. He had a neat vibrato, one of the few things I have been able to emulate in my erstwhile pickin'. I am willing to share the Mooney stuff, but please don't rush me. I broke my right wrist 4 weeks ago in Hawai'i on our 2nd day, which cut short a great 6 week vacation. I have been home since the 3rd day...suffering. E-mail, if interested and we can talk about swapping tapes or whatever. Maybe start up a new friendship ! |
