Hi All,

I'm starting to notice that I have to pull my bar sharper on the bass strings when playing chords to keep in tune, which makes me think I might need to tweak the bridge. Of course on a fretted instrument, this can be done very precisely, however, with a steel guitar it seems like an inexact science, trying to hold the bar perfectly still exactly over the 12th fret. Anyone have any tips or tricks for doing this, or do I just jump in and do it by ear/sight/feel?

thanks,

Ben

I recently aquired a Stringmaster and checked the intonation adjustment for my eye. I use a high quaility tuner and adjusted by moving the saddle to where when I look down the bar lines up parallel to the fret markers and the intonation is spot on within the small range of bar coverage. Of course this depends on how you sit and handle the bar but there is about 1/2 of movement in the saddle. Use harmonics and measure the string length to come to a compromise. What an enduring treasure these old Fenders are!

Thanks Robert. That's pretty much what I thought I would have to do.
