I got hold of a Harmony 6 string lap steel that belonged to Aunt who passed away. It has a black pearl-like finish. I found some info on a Harmony webpage but wondered if anyone else has one or tried one. any comments or complaints on this one? |

Stephen: You don't give a very detailed description, so I'm guessing that the instrument you have is guitar shaped and has a chrome-covered pickup with a 1/2" ridge in the centre. If that's the case, you've got a very nice guitar, with a rich, warm tone and good sustain. Complaints? Only that the pickup is very microphonic (sensitive to background noise), but unless you're playing at arena volume, this isn't a problem.
Harmonies with gold wire mesh-covered pickups are also fine instruments. |

Thanks Ian. Yes that's the same pickup. Has a clear/dark brown "Plexi-glass"-like cover over the pick-up & bridge. No model number or ID found on it other than "Harmony". The Harmony site has a picture of it. I'm enjoying it very much. Will have to try some alternate tunings, right now using open E Major. I sit it on a keyboard stand so I can play it standing up. Promised my Uncle I'd put together a few songs on tape in his wife's honour. She passed away 2 years ago & had this guitar since the early 60's.
