I recently put an add in the Wanted section of The Forum for an old National tricone and received a couple of nice photos for a style 3. I asked for more photos, and the guy (whose 'stagename" was Al Emryn) balked saying he did not have a digital camera. Naturally, he was not a Forumite, and he also claimed to be an American living in Brazil. Guess I should not be too judgmental there since I am an American living in China. A Google search followed and I found the two photos he sent listed on another site along with his exact description of the tricone. It had been sold already, but probably not to Al Emryn. Guess we all know these low lifes are targeting b0b's Forum, and if we do not know, we should, and adopt as many precautions as possible so as not to be taken. Thanks, steve t

I am an avid Ebay'er and I stay away from auctions with no pictures, as well as auctions with "stock" pictures. I usually come up with some question to ask the seller, and if he replies slowly or not at all, I do not bid. We have to use a lot of common sense and caution in this buying and selling game. I have done around 1500 Ebay transactions and except for a couple of non-paying bidders, they have all been successful.

Thanks for the input on this one, Steve. These guys are always coming up with something new. They must be genetically linked to the same bunch that writes computer viruses!

I wouldn't buy rock salt on E-Bay nor would I ever do business with PayPal. This is a loaded double-barreled shotgun aimed at your groin!

To each his own, I think Ebay and Paypal are the best things to come along since sliced bread. But, like I said earlier, it takes a little common sense and caution to use them successfully. There are so many people on Ebay now that the good deals are very few and far between. Many of the buyers are uninformed and bid a lot of items up to and sometimes over what the street prices are for the same product. I hate to say it, but I haven't been burned as much on Ebay as I have been buying and selling on this Forum, by fellow steel players.

I usualy ask for (and give) a home address and (land-line)phone number. I find that a quick phone call to discuss the transaction usually works best. I have not had a bad transaction yet using this method... Also, I have only bought from forum members....

You just have to get the seller to talk to you. I was just notified that I was the second chance winner of a zum steel on ebay. I have messaged the seller and he seems to not want to talk to me. The steel is supposed to be close enough to me that I can go see it and pay for it, But for some reason the seller wont contact me!!!! So I guess I just didnt bid enough for the seller to actually want to sell the guitar.

I recently bought a real nice Sho Bud Coco Boa??? off of ebay and had good luck with the deal. It came on time and in exactly the same shape the guy said it was. Bought from a music store and I phoned them a couple of times prior to bidding on the guitar. The Sho Bud is a single ten string kind of a light walnut color. My teacher told me they made a few of these called Coco Boa's but I don't know one thing about that particular model. I do know it plays and sounds like a Sho Bud should. Just be careful and always contact the seller.

Hey Douglas,

If you are talking about the S10 from Warsaw you should just buy a new one. That was a Zum student model, and it sold for $1220 when they are around $800 new!!!

You can always tell a Zum student by two things: the corners are black, and the guitar has no neck. The fretboard is directly on the body.

Wow was I wrong on this one. Hey guys the winning bidder was the one contacting me, not the seller. I finally got a call from the seller lastnight. Although the guitar was somewhat misrepresented on ebay it still may be a buy for me. The guitar is supposidly a beefed up student model zum guitar. I just wish people would be honest about things they are selling. Since I have been put in such a desperate position needing a guitar I may have to buy this one.

Thanks Jason like I just posted the guitar is supposed to be beefed up. The seller is a prominant musician in this area and he says the guitar was probably worth around 1500. Man this is really stinking LOL
