==========================================

Sierra Artist D10 8 + 4. George L pickups. Emmons E9 Chromatic set-up on front neck; Standard C6 tuning on back neck. Excellent tone and good sustain. I emailed Tom Baker at Sierra a couple of days ago and he confirmed that now that Sierra has re-opened, parts for the Artist are available. No scratches or bar marks anywhere on this guitar. It is gray pearl and has colored fret markers. I installed a small 9-volt-battery-powered tuning amp under the guitar (out of sight) which I will leave in place. This is a valuable feature for using earphones to tune up in a noisy environment. The “Wheel Ease” molded case (wheels on one end and a handle on the other) is in good condition. The guitar is about 4 1/2 years old. The only reason I can’t call it “mint condition” is because it has been played – but there is no discernable wear anywhere on the guitar. Except for about a dozen steel guitar shows and jams, its entire life has been spent in a bedroom. The original price was $3,220, and I will let it go for $1,600 with you paying the shipping charges.

I will leave this up on the Forum for a few days. If there is no interest from Forumites, I will put it on eBay – then if a Forumite buys it I will send b0b the usual commission.

Feel free to email me at
royayres@earthlink.net
with any questions you may have.

Here is a picture of the guitar (hosted for me by my good friend, Gene Jones.)

I've never owned one of these "classic Sierra guitars"! If I was still playing, I would buy it in a minute! That's a mint looking guitar!

Since I listed the Sierra last night I have received several email inquiries -- a couple of which asked why I am selling it. Some of you who attended the St. Louis convention -- especially if you attended the Hawaiian show -- already know that Laurie went into my computer without my knowledge and printed out a specification I had written and labeled as my "Dream Guitar." With Bill Stafford's assistance, she had Mitsuo Fugii custom make an Excel S-10 built specifically to my specs -- and they presented it to me at the convention as a surprize gift for my upcoming 75th birthday. Everything about the Excel is custom: scale length, string spacing, length of legs, pickup impedance, six pedals and four knee levers, and with a lock-in lever that effectively gives me two necks in one. So, I simply no longer need the Sierra.

All you pickers who are ready to move up better take a long look at this horn. Not only is it great looking but there are a few lick's left in there by one of the Masters. If I didn't have 36 stringed instruments in my music room.......hmmmm.

I had the pleasure of backing Roy up on his set in the Hawiian room on his
"suprise" new Excell.
You couldn't have slapped the smile off his face with a broom!

So it is easy to see with his new suprise dream steel,
why the Sierra has to go.

He is a finessful player, showing decades of playing behind him,
so no doubt this Sierra is in great shape and worth the price.

I played on one of the Sierra Artist guitars once and it seemed like a student model. But it seems like I read somewhere that there is also an Artist model that is more like a pro guitar. Is this the pro model or the flimsy one?

They are very lightweight, but they're not student models at all. They have all aluminum bodies. Nice instruments. As I recall, Dr. Hugh Jeffreys played one on his Doctor of Steel CD.

Student models don't come in D-10 configurations!

In my short 20+ years of pickin' PSG, one of the cool things I've gotten to do was, to carry this steel out to Mr. Ayres car after a show we played together in Florida. He sure can pick that thing. If I had some cash, I'd buy it...

Roy has played this beauty at several of our FSGC jams and Ann'y show.
This steel guitar is exactly as Roy has spelled out.
It is in like new condition and the tone and sustain on this steel is super.
The price is more than fair on this guitar.

Thanks to all of my friends who have posted comments above about my Sierra, and especially to my friend Gene Jones who has hosted the picture for me. I have had a number of inquiries via email, but only three that appear to be seriously interested -- so I will continue to leave this thread active through this Friday evening to give these three gentlemen an opportunity to make decisions. I plan to close this offer and list the guitar on eBay if the guitar hasn't sold by Friday evening. Meanwhile, if anyone who is not just "window shopping" wishes detailed pictures please email me at
royayres@earthlink.net

Thanks,

Roy
