What about the Fender non-Stringmasters? The 1940's models... Namely the Custom and the Deluxe? I would like to know the string spacing on these instruments. Is the spacing wider than a Stringmaster? Closer to Gibson spacing? |

My Stringmaster--
at nut: 2 3/16"
bridge: 2 7/16"
Dual Pro--
at nut: 2 3/16"
bridge: 2 11/16"
The dual pro isn't strung so I'm approximate but close on the bridge reading.
The stringmaster is a '54 model--the measurements may have changed, like a number of other things on it, after the SM was changed in '56 or so. |

The reason I am asking is that I like the wider spacing that Gibson models provide.
I also like the mellower tone. I am hoping that the 1940's model Fenders will give me the tone and spacing I desire. Why don't I buy a Gibson console? I like the looks of the Fender. |

Hi, Gerald, all three of my Fenders are late 40s- early 50s, Two Customs and a deluxe, all the 22.5 inch scale. They all measure
2 3/16 at the nut and around 2 19/32 at the bridge, gives around 3/8 center to center string spacing. BTW I gotta keep the deluxe, but would be glad to let you have either of the Customs. One '51 brown, one '54 Blonde. Still enjoying the melobar...
