I wonder if anyone could help me with this. Which tuning did Jimmy Day use on his early recordings with Faron Young. I am a beginner and I am really looking for that sound!!
Please let me know. email me at Altec639@aol.com

I now found out that Jimmy only played on the very first session. The guy on Faron Youngs early 1950s hits was Bob Foster....does anyone knows anything about him??????????????? |

Tele,
I believe Joe Vincent played steel for Faron in the early days,& Bob Foster played for Jean Shepard & Hawkshaw Hawkins. Bob had a tee shirt shop down on lower Broad, next to Tootsie's Bar for a while, then he told me he didn't know how much longer he could stay there,'cause the landlord was boosting the monthly rent.Consequently,he left before I could find out where he lived.
Meanwhile,Last I heard,Joe Vincent was working at the Baptist Hospital in Nashville.

Smiley,
thank you for your reply. I have a fantastic 5 CD box (Bear Family) and the booklet lists Bob Foster as the session player on Farons Hits such as "Goin Steady" ....
I really love the way he plays, tasteful, just the right amount of playing. Too bad that so little is known about him. |
