I love steel guitar music. Ihave a lap steel
that I am trying to learn. Its tuned in a
E major. I can play the melody on one string but need help with everything else.

I would suggest that you purchase the Cindy Cashdollar instructional videos, if you cannot find an instructor. Otherwise, you risk picking-up some habits that you will have to break later.

The Cindy Cashdollar videos are great and the C6 tuning works for either 6 or 8 string guitars.
