Who has a good recorded version of Desperado? I was playing around with it tonight and it sounds like it would make a really cool pedal steel tune. But there are a couple of places that I'd like to hear differently than I was playing them.
Basically, I'd like to hear someone else's version for inspiration. So who has recorded this song on pedal steel - what album.

There's a lovely, very tasteful version recorded by Steve Smith on the Canadian compilation that Bob Taillefer produced, "Northern Steel". It's available here on the Forum (and highly recommended). |

Billy Phelps has a very nice version on his CD "Starterized". The entire song selection is outstanding and Billy does a fine job with them all.

I use to play Desperado with someone who loved playing it in 3/4 . It gave it cool anticipation feel. It use to bug people out .
It's fun to put tunes in differnt meter it gives you a different perspective on Harmonic Rythm (where the chords lay)against the melody . Doesn't always work but it you will learn something if you try.
People are always quick to reharm the chords but don't mess with time signatures and rythm.
Sorry if its off topic . It just got me thinking of that-Dave |

Maybe I'll try it in 5/4. That ought to shrink something.

Lloyd Green does it on one of his albums.
Can't remember the album title off hand, but he's wearing a white suit and there is a rose and some booze....and his missus on the cover. I think. |

I was involved in a commercial project of writting an exact Tab transcription of Steve Smith's arrangement of Desperado on the "Northern Steel" CD.
I sat with Steve and verified every move.
There's excellent backing tracks available for this CD too.
THe TAB was sold thru Al Brisco at www.steelguitarcanada.com[This message was edited by Joey Ace on 15 February 2006 at 06:24 AM.] |
