I saw a strange looking lap steel at a music store and all I know is it is an 8 string, round neck, triangular in shape, Electro lettering on the side. No other visible numbers or letters. Any ideas as to what it is? I will try to stop by when the store owner is there since the fellow there didn't know.....scooter |

On closer examination the neck is not round, but still don't know what it is....scooter |

Electro was a Rickenbacker model name. My first steel guitar was a red Rickenbacker Electro lap steel, six strings.
Does the pickup have a chrome plated magnet that wraps around the coil, and comes up over the strings? That's a dead giveaway for Rickenbackers.

If it's a Rickenbacker, it could be the CW-8 (22.5" scale) or CW-81 (25" scale). These were made between 1957 and 1970 (the shorter scale CW-8 was only made until 1960). This information from Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars.
I'd have to see a picture of the guitar to be sure.

Sorry to be un attentive to the responses, I have been away from the computer. I got back to the store and there is a tail plate with pick up from a telecaster instead of the stock one. I left my number to see if the guitar owner will call. Thanks for all the help and I will let you know when I find out anything. bob you can probably close this thread, thanks.... scooter |
