I don't recall exactly what Jim Vest played. I do know you have to tune the 10th string to A with the pedals down. The release will be close, (unless you retune the pedal, too.) Anyway, here's what I play there:

F Bb
1_______________________________________________4______________
2______________________________________________________________
3__________________________________6b___4b--4-------4__________
4________8---________7L_________________4L--4L------_____5--6__
5___8a-------8a--7-------6---6a----_____4a--4-------4____5--6__
6___8b-------8b--7b------6b--------______________________5--6__
7______________________________________________________________
8___8--------8---7L------6L--------____________________________
9______________________________________________________________
10____________________7---6---6a____this string optional________

No problem at all. Hope it works for you.

One more thing: try to go from position to position slower than you might think. Our old bass player called it slithering. Maybe listen to the original recording for phrasing...

A little off the subject, but if you haven't heard Doug Jernigan's instrumental version of this tune on his new C.D., it is well worth a listen.
