This is slightly off topic but...
does anybody know if PF used a "special" guitar on "Above & Beyond" and "I Couldn't Leave You" on the Crowell album to get that Mooney sound? |

I don't remember tabbing the Rodney Crowell version on the "Rebel and Ricky" site; but I did tab the Buck Ownes version.
I would venture to say Paul Franklin used his regular guitar he was playing at that time(I think a Franklin); and the sound he got for those cuts were mainly an EQ thing.
Lots of mid and sounds like totally turning the shift on a peavey all the way to the left>ouch.
Paul is a master at emulating the sound and style of our favorites. And Paul Franklin is the king of his own sound and style which is out of this world.

| It seems to me I read that he played through an old twin reverb when cutting that album, going for a retro sound. If it's true, it was a great idea because he sounded great on that album. |

Tab for both the intro and break for this is online on the 1988 page, as done by Harold Bullard. Perhaps he or Ricky will do up "I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried", time permitting.

| A good player showed me how he got that sound. He picked and blocked very close to the bridge. It gives a tighter, more muted sound, and comes pretty close, at least IMO. |
