Steel Guitar Instrumentals:

Can anyone recall all of the classic Steel Guitar Instrumentals? Also: I am interested in just how many of then have words to them? (I know "Steel Guitar Rag" does. I have Tom Bradshaw's #11 album from the "Steel Guitar Record Club" series featuring Speedy West playing steel with a vocalist singing the words to it.) I would like to obtain tablature on all such Steel Guitar Instrumentals including the words to them where provided. Note: I am in the process of developing a little library of tablature with top artists playing these instrumentals. If you don't mind, I'll just set back and enjoy the forthcoming comments.

Allow me to be more specific to the above entry. Are there "words" to classic instrumentals such as: (1) Georgia Steel Guitar, (2) Pan Handle Rag, (3) Bud's Bounce, (4) B-Bob Hop, (5) Remington Ride, (6) Steel Guitar Jubilee, (7) Oklahoma Stump, ( Cool

Boot Hill Drag, (9) Etc, Etc Etc. I find that it is easier to learn how to play instrumentals when the "words" to the tune is provided. All comments will be appreciated. Note: I may have this message on the wrong part of the forum?

Webb Pierce recorded a song called "Georgia
Rag" which was actually the steel instrumental "Roadside Rag" with words added.
Does this qualify? I have a 78 rpm record of that around here somewhere.
Would be nice to know the name of the steel player who recorded that with him.

Hi Jerry,

I'm sorry I can't help you with the words to any of the steel guitar standards. I don't recall any for the songs you name. I do have words to "Steeling The Blues" and Steeling Is His Business" played by Jerry Byrd and sung by Rex Allen. Let me know if you need them.

Also, I would suggest you put this topic on Bar Chatter since you haven't gotten any response here.

I'm assuming that one of your reasons, Jerry, is that the words help give a sense of the phrasing of the tab and, you know, that's a real good thought, considering the short-comings of tab regarding rhythm and phrasing. Sorry I can't help but I agree with Mel that you ought to repost this in Bar Chatter.

(I have two different versions, with the same lyrics but differing amazing solos by Joaquin, of Smokey Rogers and the Western Caravan doing the "New Panhandle Rag." These lyrics are from memory, but I believe them correct. I think Webb Pierce wrote the lyrics.)
