I'm getting some noise in the late portion of the travel of my Goodrich volume pedal...noise/static going from maybe 70-80% to full open, most noticeable during slower sustained passages. I tend to notice the sound when the pedal is in motion... i.e., if it's sitting at full open, no problem.
I first noticed the issue when running the pedal in the pre-EQ loop on a Nashville 1000 that I picked up last fall. At first I thought it was an issue with the Peavey, as it did have a couple crackly pots that cleaned up with some DeoxIT. I've tried other amps, running direct into an interface, swapping cables. It is most apparent going when going into the pre-EQ loop on the Peavey or direct into a UAD Apollo Thunderbolt interface. Marginally less so when out in front of an amplifier input. At any rate, while the particular signal path may make it slightly more or less noticeable compared to others, it's still there.
Sounds more likely than not to be a pot issue, but the pedal is not that old. I hit it with some DeoxIT, but the pot appears to be sealed up pretty good... not sure it made any difference whatsoever. Maybe at this point just bite the bullet and replace the pot? Send to Goodrich for service? |

| It does sound like the pot needs to be replaced. If it’s an Allen Bradley style pot, they can go bad regardless of age. If it’s the newer Dunlop style pot, it should be good for along time. Replacing the pot isn’t a big issue and can be done by anyone with minimal soldering skills. If you want to order a new Dunlop pot, contact Bill Ferguson for great service. |

Gary, thank you for sharing that thread. Lots of helpful information there!
At any rate, unrelated to this problem, I'd been on the lookout for a Sho~Bud pot pedal, and recently found one on here...so this noise concern is less of a pressing issue at the moment. But I do enjoy using the Goodrich, and would like to get to the bottom of it.
I am curious about the passive pedal/tuner out issue mentioned at the end of the thread. I live in an older house with wiring that is not great...so I would not be surprised if any of this was rooted in some grounding issue, or lack thereof. But I have not noticed the noise apart from using the Goodrich. I'll order a new pot to swap in and see if that helps. Otherwise, will keep troubleshooting. |

Hey Lucas. Concerning the tuner out mod, I have a resistor that our dear departed friend Jon Light sent me a few years ago that is a required part to accomplish this mod.
I didn't use it due to acquiring a Hilton and have no future need for it.

| Check that the nuts are tight on all the 1/4 jacks also. |
