I'm wondering if any of you have gotten to play with a Krivo resophonic pickup - they are similar/the same as the ones Krivo makes for National. Or one of the Krivo "Manouche" pickups.

If so, what are your thoughts? I'm getting sick of using a mic on my metal-bodied, resonator guitar. (I'm not really interested in the split-saddle pickups because I hope to, one day, own a tricone.

Thanks.

Lloyd,

I have heard positive things about this pickup but haven't used one myself. I believe there was a discussion on the forum a while back.

Another option is the Meyers Feather: again, I have heard good things but haven't tried one. The advantage that I see to Meyers is it a small microphone and preamp that can easily be attached and removed. Will work on your current guitar and your future National Style 4 Tricone. I need to get a pickup for my two resos and have been giving the Meyers some serous thought.

Keep us posted.

Troy Brenningmeyer provides a demo using a tricone:

It is something on my "conditional wishlist" meaning, that if I ever have a condition (a gig) that requires me to amplify a resonator, this is what I'll buy. As with most things in our instrument's world, availability and alternatives are limited. So is unfortunately my income, hence I am not a user yet.

I have a Republik Highway 61(Johnny Winter model) metal body resonator with a Krivo pickup on it. I hadn't played it in a long time so I restrung it and played it through a L R Baggs equalizer and a Way Huge analog delay set low into a black face Princeton Reverb (Reverb on zero). It sounded Killer. Big thumbs up! I thought I had given up on 6 string open E (tuned down to D) tuning but I just changed my mind.
