Older steel player is having a hard time holding his bar.
I think a regular dobro bar might not be a
good replacement. What would you suggest?

I recently got an Ezzee-Slide bar. Much lighter than my BJS, super smooth on the strings and sticks to your hand.

I love the Ezzee Slide bar! It's a great bar to use for pedal steel, and it doesn't slide around in your hand. I use one because of cerebral palsy in my left hand, and it's the best bar I've used in my 25 years as a steel guitarist! I highly recommend Ezzee Slide polymer bars for pedal steel

Scroll down to the SHUBB RR2 listing and pic.

Longer grooved bar for pedal steel as required by Robert Randolph who generally plays 12,13 stringers.

Finger grooves on ea. side similar to the old Stevens dobro bars.

Should be weighty enough and much easier to manipulate than a bullet style bar for someone with grip challenges.

I mostly use that RR2 bar for Dobro and 8-string steel, occasionally for 10-string pedal steel as well. Heavy - maybe 7 ounces - but easy for me to grip and control. (Age 73)
