I haven’t built cabinets in several years but decided I’d build a few to stay busy after retiring. I prefer making cabinets in the Webb style and will likely be doing more. But I’ve always been a fan of the original Session 400 and David Decker listed a nice cabinet from a 1977 model. I converted it into a speaker cabinet and kept the manufacture date, inspection sticker and will mount the s/n plate & music store logo as well to keep the originality. I kept the original baffle & rear panels so it can still be returned to original if need be. Being a diehard JBL fan…I had 6 to choose from and chose an original cone D-130F. I paired it with a 2-12 cabinet I recently built with leftover materials I’d already had and some inferior tolex purchased off Amazon. I’m not at all happy with the result of that particular cabinet but those Jupiter speakers sound amazing and at 16 lbs. empty and 35 lbs. loaded…I convinced myself it wasn’t that bad… Mistakes and all.

Gil, my son is the guitar player and he moved out of state recently so I can only assume they’d sound great. They sounds really good with steel with a Walker Preamp into a Nux Atlantic and a Stewart PA200 half rack power amp. I purchased those speakers for a Fender Twin I had with the recommendation of Tim Marcus and they were a great match. I sold the amp the following week so had a new set of speakers with less than 30 minutes on them. Curiosity got me so decided I needed a cabinet for em and that put me back in the thoughts of building more cabinets. I’ll likely list them at some point so if you want to give them a try lemme know and we can meet up again and you can try them out for a couple weeks and see how they sound. I’ve read those Jupiters sound even better once they get broken in. Here’s the main cabinets I play through that I built several years back. Tom Bradshaw (being one of the finest guys around as we all know) was kind enough to send me a couple Webb badges to add.

Gil, I made both versions and loaded an E130 in the closed and K130 in the open to have different sounding options. I came to prefer the open back for steel and loaded the closed back with a Fane speaker for bass. The tolex application for that particular cabinet was quite challenging figuring out how to eliminate visible seams anywhere on back side.
