Hi steelers,

I've been searching high and low to see if I could find any steel tab for the 1950 Hank Williams song "Why Don't You Love Me (Like You Used to Do)" with Don Helms on steel, but I've had no luck.

I'm aware of a book called "Don Helms - Your Cheatin' Heart - Steel Guitar Song Book: E13th Non Pedal" — but the song "Why Don't You Love Me (Like You Used to Do)" isn't one of the songs in the book.

(There are a bunch more Hank Williams songs that I think would be interesting to source transcriptions for as well.)

I gather from some things I've read on this forum that Don Helms may have used a different neck for his steel fills during the song than what he used in the solo. (It's the solo that interests me the most.) Someone has suggested that a 6 string steel could be tuned to an E6 which would be sufficient for the parts to a lot of Hank's songs (even if Don's neck had more strings and could be classified as an E11 or E13 tuning).

If nobody can point me to anything online, is there anyone out there who offers the service of transcribing steel parts for payment?

Thanks.

Hi Daniel - I figured it out a while ago, but don't have a transcript.
It plays nicely in a 6th tuning - and a lap steel with 6 strings is good. For the beginning of the solo, grip strings 3, 4 & 5 at the root chord then keep to the same grip at the same fret, and go up the strings, then back down to the rhythm of the solo. I bet you figure out the solo until it changes chords, fairly easily.
