The Change is a massive undertaking. As the Wooden neck it mounted up against a casted Tailpiece that holds the axle that holds the fingers going down through that tailpiece. Also there is a cut out in the wood neck; where the newly casted Superpro Keyhead has about a 4" extension that runs up through the wood neck and is bolted down to the body of the guitar(under the fretboard); and this was invented by Paul Franklin Sr; when Shot Jackson gave him a call about the massive tuning issues this new SuperPro was having and Paul Sr. said: "I can fix that" and HE DID!!!
The metal neck would have to have that cut out in it. also you need to have the new Mounting Axle bracket that now will bolt down to the body and the metal neck will run around it there at the changer end.
SO THERE IS YOUR "CHANGE"...and if it is a brighter or not resonating vibration change...I highly Doubt it; it would be warmer tone to my ears; but doing this huge change to the steel; you better have someone that knows all these mechanical details and parts and most all those guys have passed away.

Sho-Bud did make a few Super Pros with aluminum necks, they used the same necks and undermount changer tailpieces as were on the Pro III. If you had a couple of sets of those parts it would be a relatively easy swap, but I think you'll find them a bit difficult to acquire. The aluminum necks are mostly hollow underneath but they do have some support webs in the casting including a center rib that runs the full length, so they would require some modification underneath on a mill to accommodate the raised support tang on the key head that Ricky mentioned.

Why bother??? If you really and truly want a metal neck Bud, just get a nice Pro III. I see them for sale with some regularity. You would be getting the most widely available "aluminum neck" Sho Bud.. Also, you would be getting the Sho Bud model that sounds the least like a good sho bud.. Metal necks on a Bud won't give you anything you need in my opinion. I have owned a bunch of Buds in my day, and although it had good sustain, my ProIII just did not sound much like a "real" bud, although it was all original.. It sounded good, just quite different from what I consider the classic Bud tone.

If you want a metal neck guitar, sell your SP to someone that will enjoy it as is, and get yourself something that is designed and built with aluminum necks.. No need to hack up an original ShoBud guitar,,bob
