I'm happy to say that I've now reached my 25th year as a steel guitarist! 25 years ago on this date, I was eighteen and got my first steel guitar, a
1974 Emmons GS-10, along with some picks and a Dunlop steel guitar bar. It's also the first time I ever used my left hand, because when I was a keyboardist, I didn't use my left hand, but when I started playing the steel guitar, I started using my left hand full time, and I still love playing steel 25 years later!

Don’t quit learning!

It keeps us Seniors Looking Forward to Something that is real satisfying to hear the sounds we make when we are right on. I never have got the pedal steel feeling from playing my guitars. In fact they seem anemic with 6 strings and working our fingers along those hard steel frets sometimes till they bleed and sting. Dont get me wrong I love the sounds the guitars make, but in my World the Pedal Steel feels like the first time I drove a Peterbilt hauling Cattle with a big trailer tagging along. I don’t think my feet ever touched the ground, couldn’t get enough of it. Same feeling at 68 years old playing Pedal Steel. I won’t quit until I die, hopefully many moons from 2025.

Enjoy the Ride!

Is there ANY hope for a guitar player transitioning from Guitar to pedal Steel at age 69 ? I’ve ALWAYS LOVED THE PEDAL STEEL GUITAR AND ITS SOUND…or would you say it’s just too much to take on and too much to tackle AT MY AGE.
Please share your “HONEST OPINIONS”
Respectfully,
Thanks Fellas!
