I’m looking at a PSG online and the cabinet appears to be what I’d describe as particle board. Is that a thing? Wouldn’t it be pretty heavy?

No heavier than solid timber, I would think.
I built a PSG out of veneered chipboard and it sounded good. It was heavy, but that was because the whole thing was over-engineered _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

That’s not particle board. It’s a protective coating they sprayed to the undercarriage. If that guitar was made of particle board it wouldn’t hold shape under string tension or stay in tune.. That material is too weak for stringed instrument construction. I don’t think anyone would build a guitar from MDF board. I’m pretty sure that steel is wood construction and you have nothing to worry about on that end.

Andy, thanks for that. Makes sense. It seemed weird to me that it might be particle board. It’s an early Justice, which I know is a great make but I wasn’t sure if maybe it started out differently. Thanks. |

If it’s a justice, that thing is solid wood and well built. If it’s a good price that you can afford and you need a great steel, grab it. You won’t be displeased. |
