Seeking bands that have emerged in about past 10 years with pedal steel player. Prefer Folk-Country-Rock-Jam Lots of bands/artists record albums with guest steel players, but I'm interested in bands with actual members who play psg. Thanks for any recommendations!

Lots of nice textures in that tune, Greg. Good band. It’s an interesting mix, with vocals not right smack in your face for a change.

Check out this thread from a few years ago. Conor Ryan put together a big Spotify playlist of current music called "Been caught steelin'":

Thanks for taking the time to listen, Fred! Yeah, at that point, we were a bunch of rock-band kids in Los Angeles exploring country music, so we mixed the instruments to be up-front in more of an indie-rock manner. Thank you for the kind words!

Correct spelling of their new name is "Silverada". Now I could easily remember the first name. "Silverado" I could have associated with Chevy. The latest name will take some repetition before it stays in my mind.

Listen to MJ Lenderman!!! Seriously. I can't really overstate how much I admire his music, songwriting, and guitar playing. It's perfect mix of Neil Young / Pavement / Drag City bands. His live band (dubbed "The Wind") has had a pretty consistent lineup, and Xandy Chlemis (I think I spelled that right) is his steel player. Xandy's playing is just great and a big reason I started playing steel a few months ago.

^This is one of my favorites

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii4ubl3URhc

^Here is MJ & the Wind's national TV debut last month, with a song from their new album.

Xandy if you're active on here, you have a fan in ohio!

I am a big fan of Cass McCombs. His regular guitarist Dan Iead plays pedal steel on quite a few numbers and it's beautiful. Check out the album 'Catacombs' for example.

I've been listening to Jason Sinay lately, I just found out today his steel player is Doug Livingston playing a nice red Franklin. Good stuff by Jason and the band.

Yes; we did a show with "Post Malone after show Party" last weekend at Broken Spoke in Austin(after Post was at Circuit of American Race track Concert); wall to wall turnout; his Pedal Steel player "Chandler Walters" headed up the Show at the Spoke. But here is Post in the studio; and yes that is singer songwriter Chandler W on pedal Steel; they are pretty good new-age music>

Country Side Of Harmonica Sam features Peter Andersen prominently on pedal steel. They play retro country music, which may or may not be to your taste. For my money they are the best in this genre. The crazy thing is they are from Sweden. (I'm amazed the singer has not a trace of an accent.)

I really like these suggestions........sounding good.

I've been enjoying the consistent quality of Charley Crockett's band with steel. Also, just discovered Steel Saddle!

Hey Michael,

In addition to the other suggestions here, I might add that you should check out our programming on SteelRadio! In addition to paying homage to the heroes of steel guitar, we are very focused on presenting the music of artists recording and touring today. Our programming is a mix of curated blocks of music and hosted programs, of which we now have eight hosted shows.

For your question, one show in particular I suggest is NOLA County, with host Jimi Palacios, out of New Orleans. Jimi covers all things Americana, Ameripolitan and more. He focuses on numerous new releases and artists, and he does a great job. His show is airing as I write this, Thurs, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm CT.

____________
Can’t tune in today? 📻
NOLA County airs Thursdays (1-4pm CT), Saturdays (7-10pm CT), Mondays (11am-2pm CT), and Tuesday night 12am midnight into Wednesday 3am CT).

While our shows are not yet archived, we air each hosted program four times each week. For the latest info on our programming please find us on Facebook, (Like & Follow us there), and we are on Instagram (SteelRadioorg).

We have a pop-up player off our website, and mobile apps for Android & iOS free to download. We also stream through Apple CarPlay.

I hope you'll tune in and let us know what you think.

Lastly, we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) station, the broadcast arm of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, Inc. We broadcast internet only, 24/7 worldwide, and just celebrated one year on the air in September.

My best,

Ted

Two of my own "band" endeavors over the past dozen years. Ron Rogers lives in Portugal now. Sons of Hudson is working nearly every week here in NY's Hudson River Valley, check the faceplant page for calendar listings, live video and more.

American Aquarium based out of Raleigh are interesting. They have been around for about 20 years, but I'd still call them emerging. Currently have Neil Jones on PSG.

Sierra Ferrell is one of the newer country artists I really like but I don't recall hearing a lot of steel guitar on tunes of hers. And I can't find "your lucky she's lonely" by her. Can you recommend any other tunes with steel and where to find the one you mentioned?

I like Sierra'a music. Not a lot of steel on it, but I think she uses Chris Scruggs when there is steel.

Her recording of "The Sea" is what caught my attention on the radio when it was released. Tasteful steel playing especially at 1:35 I assume it's Chris
